Kaihere Ridge Candles started during a pretty unexpected time in my life.

After having a heart attack, I was forced to take time off work while I recovered. I needed something to focus on during that time, and candle making became part of my rehabilitation and therapy. It gave me something creative to do, helped keep my mind busy and gave me a real sense of purpose while I was getting back on my feet.

What started as something to help me through my recovery slowly grew into Kaihere Ridge Candles.

The name Kaihere Ridge comes from where we live. We’re based in Kaihere, sitting at the top of a ridge-like hill overlooking the Hauraki Plains. It’s not an official place name, just our little description of home, and it felt like the perfect name for the business.

Today I make soy candles and home fragrance products in small batches from my home in rural Waikato. I use quality fragrance oils and carefully chosen ingredients, and I put a lot of care into every product I make.

Kaihere Ridge Candles became much more than something to do while I was recovering. It gave me something positive to work towards and eventually became a small business that I am really proud of.

I think that beginning is still a big part of the way I run the business now. I care about what I make, how it looks, how it smells and the experience people have when they receive it.
